ABOUT PODCAST/

In PortSett Podcast, the host explores her Portuguese-Malaccan - aka Kristang - heritage through history, language, music, and food. She takes her friends along on her journey to discover what it means to be Kristang.

the narrative

The main narrative which the host embarks upon is about exploring one’s own culture. Importantly included in this narrative is the element of disconnect from a marginalized heritage culture. The reason our podcast features this element so heavily is because it is a personalized ‘multiplicitous’ way to engage with the Kristang culture from a perspective both individual and poignant to other members of the community - who may associate themselves to various different degrees with the Kristang culture. Additionally, this assists us in exploring the anthropological notions of what a culture is in a unique and engaging way.
